The sheer sensuality of Rita Hayworth, slithering through dance numbers or toying with her young thug, is the stuff male fantasies are made of. An exotic setting – Buenos Aires. A complex love-hate triangle – Johnny Farrell (Glenn Ford), gambler turned factotum, his boss Ballin Mundson (George Macready) and the luminous woman who marries one but owns the other. Political intrigues and sexual tension almost distract us from Hayworth tossing her hair and asking us to “Put the Blame on Mame…“ But like her poster on the wall of Shawshank, Hayworth will be the image – gloriously restored – that stays with us.
