(Summer Workshops are conducted in Cantonese.)
Stills and posters are often the first points of contact between the audience and the film. Photographers set out to evoke the drama of motion pictures in still images, capturing nuances and emotions that are fascinating in their own right. Whereas posters, as the upfront and most significant promotional tool, contribute to the branding of a film as a visual representation of its essence and style. Effective stills and posters can create an initial impact as well as a lasting impression in the minds of the audience.
The widespread use of photo-shooting tools and software, and the popularity of AI adoption make stills photography and poster design more convenient, yet it does not make being a professional easier - it still requires enormous expertise and experience to make a piece of work stand out in a competitive entertainment landscape. We are privileged to have two notable stills photographers and two poster designers join our Summer Workshops, sharing with the public their artistry of how to create a film’s most persuasive visual signs.
CineClub subscribers can register online from 6 August (Tue) at 10am. Limited tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Free Seating. Free Live Streaming.
