A Special Day(Una giornata particolare)

On May 4th 1938, Hitler arrived in Rome to visit Mussolini, where he was met by throngs of jubilant swastikawaving Italians. As the city celebrates, a pair of neighbours who haven’t joined the festivities inadvertently spend an unexpected day together when a put-upon wife of a fascist blackshirt, left alone to manage the household, meets a despondent former radio presenter who was dismissed for his homosexuality. Shot in washed-out sepia tones as the inescapable drone of the day’s events persists in the background, these two lonely, marginalised characters find a glimmer of fleeting hope in one another’s plight.
