Almost a Miracle
Dir: Ishii Yuya
Japan, 2019, 120 minmins, DCP
Cast: Hosoda Kanata, Sekimizu Nagisa, Iwata Takanori, Takahata Mitsuki
Festival favorite Ishii Yuya again champions society’s eccentric outsiders in his big screen adaptation of the hit manga series from Ando Yuki. Hosoda Kanata stars as nerdy high schooler Machida, a big-hearted lad whose compulsion to help everyone around him often gets him in trouble. After one such incident, he ends up in the school infirmary, where he is treated by classmate Nana (Sekimizu Nagisa), a beautiful girl incapable of getting close to anyone. Despite their obvious differences, a fledgling romance blossoms between this pair of star-crossed loners.
