Band of Outsiders(BANDE À PART)
Dir: Jean-Luc Godard
France, 1964, French, 96mins, DCP
Cast: Anna Karina, Claude Brasseur, Sami Frey, Danièle Girard
Featuring some of the most iconic scenes from 1960s Godard, including the lightning tour through the Louvre and the exhilarating Madison dance sequence in a cafe, Godard reimagined the gangster genre like no other, and influenced the likes of Bertolucci, Tarantino and Wong Kar Wai. Two restless young men Franz and Arthur seduce the delightful English language student Odile, and plot a burglary after she mentions a big pile of cash stashed at her aunt’s villa, until things go horribly awry. Godard’s voiceover narration is both playful and romantic, exhibiting the ultimate coolness in French cinema.
