Renowned for his grotesque fantasy, and obsession with monsters, Guillermo del Toro’s dark fairytale poetry launches a perfect startup in the vehicle of vampire. Discovering a gold gizmo conceived by an alchemist, an elderly antiques dealer undergoes a bizarre youthful transformation and develops a thirst for blood, all the while resisting the relentless pursuit of a dying industrialist. Reversing the clichés of a horror story while retaining moral conviction, the Mexican director creates a monster who turns out to be the most humane character, finding his ultimate salvation not in Catholic faith, but in human love.
