Early Spring(Soshun)

Feeling stifled by his dreary white collar job, his boring marriage, and his life that is going nowhere, an office worker begins an affair with a flirtatious colleague. As his estranged wife leaves home and he is transferred to the country, he decides to start afresh. Through the disquiet of domestic relationships, Ozu, in his minimalist style, portrays the pathos of the salarymen’s lives swept by the dramatic changes in the rapidly modernising society. A sense of pessimism permeates in the sadness of their existence, yet a breeze of hope is never far away as spring returns.
