Fanny, a 17-year-old schoolgirl from France, enrolls in a language exchange programme that brings her to Germany. There she meets Lena, her pen pal and her family. While both the same age, Lena is the opposite of Fanny: self-assured, confident with her identity and interested in leftist politics. As a result, Fanny becomes determined to impress her new friend at all costs. Shot between Strasbourg and Leipzig, Claire Burger’s latest is a tender, queer coming-of-age doubling as a portrait of European youth fighting for a better future with passion and conviction.
