Ghost in the Cell

When a sinister force starts murdering prisoners of a maximum-security prison in spectacularly gruesome (and unusually artistic) fashion, the inmates must overcome internal strife and figure out their supernatural visitor’s motive in order to literally save their own skins. Indonesian genre master Joko Anwar’s latest film is a delightfully macabre blend of a haunted house ride, pitch-black humour and incisive social satire. Body horror fans will be thrilled by Anwar’s ludicrously inventive ways of mutilating the human body, while everyone else will be tickled by Anwar’s hilarious take on kleptocracy, social hierarchy and corruption in Indonesia.
