Godard's Early Short Films

Cast: Anne Collette, Jean-Clande Brialy, Jean-Paul Belmondo
Godard lays the groundwork for his future with these four short films. Operation Concrete documents the construction of a dam, made with his earnings as a construction worker. In All the Boys Are Called Patrick, two young roommates meet a great guy separately on the same day, and later discover that both men have the same name. Godard re-edited Truffaut’s abandoned footage to become A Story of Water, about a woman rescued from a flood by a man, and ends up having romantic exchanges in his car. Charlotte and Her Boyfriend is Godard’s first collaboration with Belmondo, who tries to convince his ex-lover to return to him.
