Law of Desire

  • Dir: Pedro Almodóvar

  • Spain, 1987, 102 minmins, DCP

  • Cast: Eusebio Poncela, Carmen Maura, Antonio Banderas

Desire and being desired. An insatiable, and often selfish, sexual appetite thrills and torments a celebrated gay porn director. A casual one-night stand turns into a complicated relationship with a young man, whose first homosexual experience soon spirals into obsession, jealousy and violence. Never shies away from addressing sexuality boldly in the spirit of self-mocking humor, Almodóvar composes one of his most iconic “queer” narratives, sending up the absurdities of human lust in an unbridled outrageousness with a genuine compassion – and deadliest follies.
