Paeans to keep going and never quit bubble up in Leigh’s wickedly funny Life is Sweet. Driver Andy and homemaker Wendy are raising two girls – one chugging along at work and the other wasting away as a sharp-tongued bulimic shut-in. When dad buys a crummy caravan-turned-kitchen, he dreams of breaking out with a new venture, just like family friend Aubrey hopes to do with his hapless attempt at running a classy restaurant. Leigh’s deadpan tale of everyday battlers counts among his breezier works, but the raw emotions are no less realistic and affecting.
