Manifesto
Dir: Julian Rosefeldt
Germany, 2017, 95 minsmins, DCP
Cast: Cate Blanchett, Erika Bauer
A scientist, a choreographer, a punk, a puppeteer… they are all personae of the chameleonic Cate Blanchett, who plays 13 wildly different characters, each of whom delivers a famous “manifesto”. Started with Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto shouted by her unrecognizable disguise as a filthy homeless man, to her role as a school teacher spouting the Dogme 95 doctrine to fifth grade students. No more sacred texts, these manifestos are turned inside out in utmost absurdity. Julian Rosefeldt transforms his art installation into a visually arresting film, bringing fresh possibilities to ideas that were always intended to rock the world.
