More Than a Miracle(C'era una volta)

A rare fantastical departure for filmmaker Francesco Rosi, More Than a Miracle is a romping slice of classical escapism that follows a traditional fairytale narrative. Omar Sharif’s rebellious Spanish Prince defies his parents’ wishes to marry one of seven hand-selected princesses, and instead is instantly smitten by Loren’s fiery peasant girl. However, their path to happiness is fraught with obstacles, including a witch’s curse, flying monks, a mountain of newborn chicks, and a climactic plate-washing contest between the prospective brides-to-be – all set to an inspired score from Piero Piccioni, and a hit theme song by crooner Roger Williams.
