Set in the small, snowy town called Normal in Minnesota, this thriller blends gleeful violence with the folksy darkness reminiscent of Fargo , pairing Coen-esque absurdity with off-kilter, explosive action sequences. Stepping in as the interim sheriff, Ulysses has a seemingly laid-back role to play – that is, until a botched bank robbery interrupts the municipality’s tranquil pace, inadvertently exposing a dark secret and triggering a lively ensemble of bloody crossfire mayhem. Wheatley choreographs this carnival of carnage, inventively staging the chaos that subliminally questions gun culture and the concept of ‘normal’ in today’s American society.
