Number Two(NUMÉRO DEUX)

  • Dir: Jean-Luc Godard

  • France, 1975, French, 87mins, DCP, Category III

  • Cast: Sandrine Batistella, Pierre Oudry, Alexandre Rignault

Breathless producer Georges de Beauregard financed Godard to remake his first film with his newly amassed video equipment, the result is one of Godard’s starkest and most uncompromising films, an aesthetically minimalist essay on sex, work, children, mortality, love and ideology, with nothing resembling his landmark feature debut. Focusing on the mundane reality of an average family as the father goes to work and the mother being bored at home, Godard digs deep to explore the sexual impulses that drive the familial unit. An important transitional work that prefigures the towering Historie(s) of Cinema.
