Francis Ford Coppola’s early ’80s passion project, legendary for bankrupting its director and studio, returns for much-needed reappraisal. With hits like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now to his name, the maestro switched gear to spin intimate romance drama into a gorgeous megabudget musical. As a Las Vegas couple call it splits and find new flames, Coppola deploys gorgeous retro sets, experimental filmmaking techniques, and a moody Tom Waits score. The daring production rattled investors and distributors before sinking at the box office. But Coppola never gave up on One from the Heart, and with a fresh cut and restored footage brings new life to his lavish cinema confection.
