In the distant future, the war-torn world has become a barren wasteland. Water is the land’s most precious resource and what is left of it is hoarded by a powerful King and his Royal Army. What remains of humanity now coexists with dragons and demons, among them the firecracker of a bandit Beelzebub. On a search for a fabled oasis, grizzled sheriff Rao enlists the son of Satan on his quest. Thus begins Yokoshima Toshihisa’s adaptation of the late great Toriyama Akira’s beloved one-shot manga published in 2000, here jumping off the page in the director’s trademark blend of CG modeling and 2D animation.
