Saraband
Dir: Ingmar Bergman
Sweden, 2003, 107minmins, DCP
Cast: Liv Ullmann, Erland Josephson, Börje Ahlstedt
The swan song of the legendary Bergman, before he put out the light of his magic lantern. Thirty years after Scenes of a Marriage (1973), Marianne (Liv Ullmann) makes a surprise visit to her ex-husband Johan (Erland Josephson), who is now forming new trenches in the battles with his widowed son and his trapped daughter. In this powerful yet painfully honest tale about selfish relationships, inability to love and compulsion to create misery on others, Bergman keeps his instincts in capturing savage truths till the end, and offers no resolution.
