No stranger to true crime genre with films like Port of Call and Papa, Philip Yung returns as the producer of screenwriter Frankie Tam Kwong-yuen’s compelling and ambitious solo directorial debut. Told from the perspectives of the convicted murderer, who spends decades proclaiming his innocence, and a police detective who loses his career for challenging his fellow officers’ dubious investigation methods, Tam’s pseudo-fictional take on the murder is a captivating exploration of man’s darkest tendencies and the elusive nature of truth in a world driven by self-interest and greed.
