Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma

  • Dir: Jane Schoenbrun

  • USA/Canada, 2026, English, 106mins, DCP

  • Cast: Hannah Einbinder, Gillian Anderson, Amanda Fix, Arthur Conti, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman

The controversial Camp Miasma slasher franchise is set to be revived by Hollywood executives, who tap indie darling Kris for the reboot. Determined to offer a unique spin on the IP, while aware of being tokenised for her sexuality, the emergent director chooses to confront her original infatuation: its star actress, who now lives on the haunted, snowy grounds of the series’ campsite. Nodding to Friday the 13th as well as queer and feminist analysis of the genre, Jane Schoenbrun’s latest achieves a unique kind of alchemy: a blood-soaked exploration of sapphic desire and the uneasy relationship between media and fantasy, blossoming out of the heteronormative, consumerist carcass of the ’80s slasher.
