A sideshow performer snags an extraordinary side hustle in Pierre Salvadori’s elegant Cannes opener. When despairing former artist Antoine begs Suzanne at a 1920s Paris fairground to help contact his late wife, little does he know Suzanne is not a medium but Venus Electrificata, who channels volts to daring punters via her lips, yet her bogus séance enables him to paint again. Once Antoine’s agent cottons on and eyes new art sales, a scheme is hatched to continue Suzanne’s act – if a growing attraction doesn’t complicate things. Salvadori melds nimble romantic comedy and plenty of soul cleansing as love and loss, and deception and redemption, emerge from the eye-catching Parisian milieu.
