After learning that his estranged brother Lyle has suffered a lifethreatening stroke, 73-year-old Alvin Straight vows to clear the air before it’s too late. Alvin’s only means of transportation is his trusty John Deere tractor mower, and despite experiencing a recent health scare of his own, he stubbornly embarks on the 240-mile odyssey. What might seem remarkably conventional for Lynch, this true story is peppered with the everyday eccentrics and acutely observed Americana he has drawn from his entire career. Facing down his own advancing years and health concerns, what emerges is a deeply personal story that remains quintessentially Lynchian.
