The Suspended Step of the Stork(To meteoro vima tou pelargou)
Dir: Theo Angelopoulos

“How many borders do we have to cross before we reach home?” The aging, reclusive refugee is believed to be a famous Greek politician missing years ago, now living among refugees from different countries who are waiting to start life anew “somewhere else”. Told from the perspective of a young journalist who seeks to ascertain his identity, it is a prophecy about the “melancholy at the end of the century”, in which Angelopoulos weaves a poetical allegory on borders, refugees, a changing world in our turbulent age – and the possibility of a “new humanism” evoked in an almost mythical closing image of refixing communications. Screening with short film Three Minutes (2007, 3’)
