Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me

  • Dir: David Lynch

  • USA/France, 1992, English, 134mins, DCP

  • Cast: Sheryl Lee, Moira Kelly, David Bowie, Kyle MacLachlan

If television audiences were confounded by Twin Peaks, the cinema-going public was left bamboozled by Lynch’s big screen prequel. Tracing the last seven days of Laura Palmer’s doomed existence – a hedonistic blizzard of drug use and prostitution to escape the endless torments of Bob – this surreal and unsettling nightmare offers few clues, instead introducing new characters, an overall darker tone, and posing more unanswered questions. General audiences rejected the film outright, but it proved catnip to the ever-growing Lynch faithful, who have embraced it with feverish enthusiasm, holding it aloft as a defining work in the director’s expanding oeuvre.
