Talk to Her
Dir: Pedro Almodóvar
Spain, 2002, 113 minmins, DCP
Cast: Rosario Flores, Javier Cámara, Darío Grandinetti
A detour from women friendships, Talk to Her still finds feminine sensitivity in the two men who care for their beloved women in a coma. Juxtaposing two duos: the travel writer and the gored female matador, the male nurse and the ballerina, Almodóvar’s penetrating camera switches between profound emotion and ethical inquiry as he grapples with rape (in a cinematic analogy through the recreation of Shrinking Lover aesthetics) and unconsciousness. A uniquely soulful blend of sensuality and spirituality, in one of Almodóvar’s most mature and mysterious films.
